I bought thisbook on Chinese Calligraphy some time ago on Amazon.com. The book is anexcellent book on Chinese Calligraphy covering all aspects. The book is great for both beginner and advanced! For the advanced reader it’s a greatreference guide. For the beginner, thebook introduces the reader to the 4 treasures of the calligraphy studio, strokeorder, history & styles of calligraphy, and introduction to important Chinesecharacters. The author shows how towrite a good number of Chinese characters arranging them into various categories. The basic Chinese stroke is shown withgreat detail. The pictures are amazingand the author even introduces the Chinese seal and Chinese painting! I would highly recommend this book to anyonethat wants to know about Chinese Calligraphy or anyone wanting a great referenceon the subject.

I found this book amazing for learning Chinese or as a reference guide! The book has both traditional & simplified Chinese characters. This is very helpful since you should be familiar with both. The reader is exposed to every aspect of the language: parts of speech, sentence structure, addressing letters & envelopes, greetings, apologies, sympathy, new words for current technology (fax, email, internet etc.) just to name a few! I was very happy to use this book which satisfied all my expectations. I would highly recommend this book to anyone serious about learning Chinese. I would also recommend the book as a reference guide for those who already know Chinese.

Don't be fooled by the cover, this book gives the English meaning of each character. The book is one of a kind because unlike other dictionaries, this book shows the relationship of each character. Each character includes a brief break down, explaining the character's composition. The traditional character also have their simplified form along with English definition, and Mandarin pronunciation. You may also look up each character using different methods. I wish I had this book when I was a teenager! The author, James D. McCawley did a great job.

The book has both Mandarin & Cantonese pronunciation and gives the reader a good understanding of Chinese food dishes and the Chinese Menu.

The Chinese language is one of the oldest languages on the world. Chinese is the only language today that comes from pictures, has no alphabet and is used in the modern world. There are 214 radicals which are the building blocks or foundation of the Chinese language. Chinese Calligraphy is the artistic form of Chinese writing, using the Chinese brush. In order to get a good understanding of Chinese Calligraphy, one should be familiar with the Chinese character. Chinese Calligraphy consists of controlling the Chinese brush, studying the 8 basic strokes and Chinese Character construction. Afterwards one practices writing from the various Chinese classics.
